The Cochin University Library has built up a balanced and rich collection on all branches of Sciences and Technology. At the same time books of general interest having high intellectual standard in various subject fields are not neglected. At present the collection exceeds 95,000 inclusive of several valuable reference books, doctoral theses and back volumes of periodicals, patents, CD-ROM etc.
Special Collection
University Library has started a Special Collections Section on the top floor of the building. It includes Collection of Theses, Patents, Art Books, Census Reports, Vikasana Rekha and books on Library and Information Science.
Journals
University Library subscribes to about 51 Indian Journals and 92 foreign print journals of various subjects. The University Library follows centralized purchasing system for foreign periodical. Central Library subscribes to about 45 online journals and 13 databases and about 15,000 e-journals also available through various consortiums.
Organization
Central Library building is functional and modular in construction. It has an area of 17000 sq.ft in four floors with two main halls of 1800 sq.ft. One reference hall is partially converted to Internet hall. Stack room (three in number) has a total carpet area of 6300 sq.ft.
Documents are classified according to Universal Decimal Classification and indexed according to Anglo American Cataloguing Rules with local modifications. The bibliographic records of books, journals, and theses in the Library and some department libraries can now be accessed globally through WEBOPAC. Its URL is http://opac.cusat.ac.in/
